Book Review: The Next Level Mentality by David Olawade

Some weeks ago I was sent a book to one of the focused groups I belong to on WhatsApp. This book was written by a great man Mr David Olawade who recently was nominated among the Forbes 30 under 30.

This book is a book written to help you appreciate your little beginnings as a person and what you can do to strive better to become a global personality. Mr David Olawade, share some of his life experience on how he rose to become a person of influence and value.

As he said, "No one can do what you are called to do better than you. Our generation needs your anointing, expertise, prowess and talent". So now let's dive deep into the book summary.

I seek to drop highlight pointers that I found most intriguing to me from each chapter so you can fully catch a summary from the book.

Chapter 1: What have you promised yourself.

In this chapter, Mr David mentioned how he promised himself that he would come out the best student in his secondary school and he achieved exactly that.

Being faithful to a promise requires a price, it is a great tragedy to be faithful to a promise with a wrong
intention. It requires hard work, enthusiasm, consistency, commitment, thinking always and so on.
Reflect on major issues of your life today, and make promises of what you desire as inspired by the God
factor and be faithful to it.

Chapter 2:  What has been awaken in you determines what wakes you up.

Our daily progress and commitment to going the extra mile is what attracts the future we desire. Success will definitely smile on us if we do the necessary by being enthusiastic about what brings us closer to our dreams.
You don't need to have all the resources you need to start or take a step. Start with what you have where you are. Your time is one of the greatest assets and resources that you have for now.

Chapter 3: We Didn't arrive there, we climbed there.

Instead of concentrating more on the result of those great men you love, concentrate more on how they got their results.

Instead of always publicizing your challenges with others to gain a sense of sympathy why not also consider the lessons you can learn from them having the understanding that it's not more than what you can bear and it's only for a while.

Chapter 4: Do you desire to get younger or older?

Don't wish for longer years on earth but hope for long-lasting impact that your life can initiate.

Your lifespan can only accommodate your divine plans.

Don't give excuses for anything, remain enthusiastic about everything as you have always been. Don't stop improving because you are getting better by the day. Remain focused, greater things are ahead of you and you are getting closer by the day as you do the needful per time.

Chapter 5: Beyond your hobby: make your passion your profession.

Make your passion your purpose and profession. Identify things you can do without being paid, things
you can do for hours without being stressed and things you do for people, get praised for but you feel you did with little effort. Disengage from hobbies that you don't see a future in that takes your quality time.

Chapter 6: How big is your little? Little beginning or lazy beginning.

What makes you feel praying 15 minutes daily is proof of the days of your little beginning when you know the demands of the supernatural upon your life?

Have you considered how big your little one can be and how much you can do in the days of your little beginning? Do something serious today about that desire.

Remember, the challenges that doesn't move you will definitely move away for you if you remain focused enough.

Chapter 7: That we play does not mean we don't have pain; when we are done, we remember God is up.

What makes the difference is our decisions and respond to the circumstances around us. The circumstances that can’t move us will definitely move away from us.

Aim tirelessly for an impact-driven life per time and engage the next-level mentality. You will be ashamed to die until you have done in volumes something notable for humanity across the globe. For your life to be worth living, you have to live for others.

Add to your calling, expertise; add to your expertise, creativity.

Chapter 8: It is what we obtain from him that determines what we attain in life; what we receive is what we achieved.

You have to be careful; don't allow what God is yet to do for you or what you are yet to experience in Him to make you forget what He has helped you to attain and overcome, remember where He took you from.

We owe our generation something relevant beyond contributing to the statistics of populace, let's have in mind that we are solutions to the need of humanity and we are indebted to making our generation better.

Chapter 9: Let them laugh because they will soon learn from that which seems comic about you.

It's not everyone you owe an explanation for having a wrong impression about you; sometimes you need to be silent and progress to being what lies ahead of you.

It is not humility for a Gold to apologize to an Iron for shining brighter, the understanding of purpose made it so.

Chapter 10: You are not showing off for being who you are and not product for being you.

Acting like a mediocre or pitiable is not a sign of humility.

Do not allow the shade of your critics block the light of your success”- Bishop FEB Idahosa

When God blesses your neighbour, it signals that he is still in the neighbourhood. The time you would spend to envy or criticize the blessings of your neighbour can be used to connect to God for your own blessings while God is still in the neighbourhood.

Chapter 11: Be intentional about what you do: you can be celebrated where you are despised, only time would tell.

One day, your critics would soon be your fans. Very soon, those who wrote you off would read in volumes what others would write about you. Ask Christiano Ronaldo how he did it that the home fans of Juventus football club gave him an ovation after spearheading the loss of their team to the advantage of his side. Very soon, those who wrote you off would read in volumes what others would write about you.

Be patient folks and be discerning. This is not time to be discouraged or to give up. Only time would tell. There is something about you that our generation is yet to see.

Chapter 12: Jesus Deserves the accolades

See reason to smile today; it doesn't only look good on you, it's a medicine to your health and that of others.

There is always a reason to smile. It doesn't matter how the circumstances may appear, it is our reactions and dispositions to it that makes the difference.

Your transformation is the transformation of others. Your motivations can help someone out of his state of depression. Your smile can wipe away someone's tears. Your play can heal someone's pain. Your resources can help someone's poverty.

Chapter 13: Being talented is not a guarantee to being successful; I have met talented failures but yet to find diligent failure.

Talent makes you stand out, get you noticed, separate you from others and gives you an edge over others. Remember, talent doesn't guarantee an end, it only gives a prepared launching pad to begin a conquest.

Many talented people started with an advantage over others but lose the advantage because they rely too
much on their talent instead of working on it to produce their success. They assume that talent will always keep them in front of others.

Chapter 14: The living therapy; do you want to live long or die long.

People love to despise what they can't categorize to their taste or what they can't measure up to instead of connecting to it or celebrating it. You can't harness what you don't honour.

A time is coming when those that didn't believe in you when you were depositing and investing into your personal life and development would be ashamed to withdraw from it when God elevates you.

Chapter 15: You need to understand these if you want to stand out and stay relevant.

Association doesn't confer same honour with those you are associating yourself with, progress does. The popularity of a man of God can't release fire on you, you will need to fan into flame intentionally the gift of God in you.

Understand that life is turn by turn; time and chance happen to all men. That someone is ahead of you in ministry, exploits, impact or progress is not the reason why you are behind. Celebrate, appreciate and learn from those that are ahead of you, their age notwithstanding.

I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday"- Abraham Lincoln
Can you revive your reading habit today?

Chapter 16: We would keep aiming at our targets.

Always be a first rate version of yourself and not a second rate version of someone else - Judy Garland
Don't let your uniqueness make you shy. Remain the wonder that you are.

Chapter 17: The trinity invoke; Me, Myself and I.

There are situations we find ourselves that we didn't bargain for neither can we wish them away. There is an assurance that we have, they are only for a "while". It will definitely pass away. These circumstances are only guests that checked into our space and consecration to try our faith, to make us perfect, to establish us and strengthen us.

Our heads may be buried in the ocean of our situations but our eyes are opened to find the missing links and where we might have gotten it wrong.

The End!

I truly hope that these short nuggets I have extracted from the book bless you.
