Nigerians are tribalistic; Ask your Ancestors.

Two factors contribute to people being either "tribalistic" or "Racist". One of them is the story they hear or the experience they have had.

Both of these factors are correct and true but both of them are also wrong and even very wrong. It all depends on the lens you are looking at it from. It is similar to the question asked to know if a glass is either half full or half empty.

Hey Solomon, why will you say they are correct and they are also wrong? The truth is you cannot invalidate another man's experience because of your experience. The factors that contributed to one's experience cannot be the same for the other. What this means is that if I being an Igbo boy experienced brotherhood love and care from my "Youruba" roommate in school because I also treated him right and was the first person to open my door to him cannot say the way you experienced love and care from another Yoruba person because his mother told him all Yoruba's are good people is the same way love should be defined.

I find the word "Perspective" intriguing and fascinating because it determines how the world around us is seen by us and this has a way in shaping how we live our life in a world filled with many uncertainties. TThe famous question of whether a glass is half full or half empty is a perfect example of how our perspective can impact our perception.

The same can be said for the concept of validation. One person's experience may seem completely different from another's, even if they share similar circumstances. It would be wrong to invalidate another person's experience just because it doesn't align with our own.

For instance, two individuals could have experienced love and care from people of a different culture or ethnicity, but the factors that contributed to their experiences could be completely different. One may have received love and care due to the kindness they showed to their roommate, while the other may have experienced it because of a preconceived notion their family instilled in them.

It is essential to acknowledge and understand that our experiences are subjective and shaped by our individual perspectives. This knowledge will help us to become more open-minded, compassionate, and empathetic towards others. It will also help us to validate and appreciate the unique experiences of those around us.

In conclusion, the idea that both of these factors are correct and wrong is a powerful one. Our perspectives shape our experiences, and it is vital to respect and validate the experiences of others, even if they don't align with our own. We can all learn from each other's experiences and work towards creating a more inclusive, empathetic world.

Tribalism can have negative consequences, such as discrimination, conflict, and division. It can also lead to a lack of national unity and hinder the country's progress. To address this issue, Nigerians need to learn to appreciate their cultural heritage while recognizing the value of other cultures. We need to celebrate our diversity while also working towards a common goal of national unity.

Nigeria has a rich cultural heritage, with over 250 ethnic groups and a diverse range of traditions and customs. Instead of viewing these differences as a source of division, we should see them as a strength. Nigerians need to embrace our diversity and work towards a more inclusive society that values all people, regardless of their ethnicity.

In conclusion, the issue of tribalism is a complex one that cannot be easily resolved. However, Nigerians need to recognize the negative consequences of tribalism and work towards a more inclusive society. We need to celebrate our diversity while also recognizing the value of other cultures. As the saying goes, "ask your ancestors" - let us learn from the mistakes of the past and work towards a better future for all Nigerians.
